I don't feel like Asante Samuel made a much better case than the average twitter user I'm afraid. Both guys had swag and would not be playing CB in high-top converse, so that's good. He gave us the PFF stats and put a lot of weight into the fact that Riq caused more turnovers. Then he told us to go look at the film. If he's gonna be a former player/expert doing this kind of stuff then he's got to leverage his on-field experience and game knowledge to make more compelling arguments. Any Joe can look up stats on PFF, but very few humans have the practical knowledge of how to be a good CB that Samuel does. I'm glad an all-pro CB thinks that Riq is awesome, but I wish he'd produced more interesting content to make his argument.

I was shocked that Pete was not one of the COY winners. I thought, surely he must have in 2012 when they were storming? Nope, only 3rd. The Super Bowl winning season then? Yeesh....

Coach Team Votes

1 Ron Rivera Carolina Panthers 21.5

2 Andy Reid Kansas City Chiefs 13.5

3 Bill Belichick New England Patriots. 7

4 Chip Kelly Philadelphia Eagles 4

5 Pete Carroll Seattle Seahawks 3

6 Bruce Arians Arizona Cardinals 2

I sincerely appreciate the comparing of one player to another!

Not that it actually means anything...

The older I get, the less these X vs Y conversations hold much interest for me. Is Tariq better than Sauce? I don't know, is it actually possible to have both players play the same position, same scheme, same formations, in the same defense against the same offenses with the same coaching for an entire season? Because then we can actually compare them. Otherwise it's a lot of excited hot air about apples actually being extremely comparable to oranges. There are much better uses of one's time.

No doubt. I wouldn't say I "wasted" a lot of time on Russ vs Luck, or Russ vs Cam, because I went through the growing up and maturing process that way. But it's not how I want to spend my time anymore.

I also learned a lot from those specific discussions that were helpful for me as a football fan. But I didn't enjoy getting into intense disagreements with complete strangers simply because we're fans of different teams/players, and that was often where those sorts of discussions ended up either at FG or other sites.

My thoughts on extreme disagreements, what ever it may be about, is to just smile and let the other party be wrong. Of course, sometimes I may be the one who is wrong.

Love the Seahawks history quizzes, Kenny. They make old grizzled Seahawkers like me feel young again.

Me, too! I remembered his band's awesome album, Vulgar Display of Power, though. "Walk" was a banger back in the day!

“Luck, Cam, Kap, RGIII, Mariota, Carr, Tannehill, Foles, Goff, Dalton...”

Who woulda thunk that Geno Smith would eventually outplay and outlast everyone on this list?

I think there's a small chance Geno becomes a folk hero type player for the Seahawks along the lines of Largent, Marshawn, Tez.. If, say, he has 4-5 more good years, in which he takes us to the playoffs and maybe even a super bowl, it's an incredible story, and he'll have endeared us to him as a beat-the-odds story we'll be talking about for decades. If he can become better than he was - which is not out of the realm of possibility given he's shown elite tendencies on deep balls, etc - it really is an amazing story.

I thought about him too and I was like, yeah that's crazy haha. Left him off just because his career with the Jets was so short and--well not "forgettable"--but he was never in the conversation for "good".

I figured—there was no smooth way to include Geno on that list. But done one had to comment!

BTW, in the 2012 Luck-Griffin-Wilson draft, the Browns not only traded *up* to draft Trent Richardson at #3 overall, they took Brandon Weeden at #22.

I still think there is a lot more ink and TV coverage on the East coast than the West. Maybe one day the West will catch up. At least the LA press gives us some ink. May the 12s be with you and Go Seahawks!

Literally getting more coverage could be a thing for sure. I don't think this matters nearly as much as a player getting drafted in the top-5. If Devon Witherspoon balls out and a 5th round CB balls out too, then I think voters will favor the Seahawks CB this time.

I think it was Teddy Roosevelt who said "comparison is the thief of joy." In the case of athletes, it's more than a loss of joy; it's pointless. Sure, Jerry Rice is probably the best receiver to ever play the game and MJ is the basketball GOAT. But even those aren't cut and dry for all of history. I have no way to prove it, but I believe that such comparisons is what made Russ want out of Seattle. He watched Tom Brady beat Mahomes in that Super Bowl and decided he could never be Brady as long as he was here. Now with hindsight, I'm overjoyed he made that decision; but my point is only that focusing on how green the grass looks in other places rarely leads to contentment.

It's a plain and simple explaination..East coast bias as usual !!!

We East coasters can't help it. We got stuff to do in the morning. It's not our fault the sets in the West.

I'm not sure I can keep this totally politically free but I'll try. Any one non-NY based NFL football team fanbase whining about the NY bias sounds seriously like one political party whining about the press favoring the other guys. Every fanbase can find their own SeaSide Joe, and everybody that's interested in politics can find their own favorite news source, but in the end it all comes out about even.

As long as people talk about politics in the abstract, it should be fine. We all know that the concept of politics exists in our world. It's the arguments within that world that should be left to Twitter and other forums. I appreciate you taking care with walking this line though, Ray. It doesn't contain any specifics, you're just comparing NFL debate to other kinds of debate.

The stat I love best - Woolen has been playing CB for three years.

It's pretty wild to think of how far he's come in a short amount of time. It makes me wonder if maybe players benefit more from transitioning later in their careers than they typically do. Pete Carroll and his staff didn't have to make Woolen "unlearn" bad habits. They had a raw canvas to paint on. Similarly as written in the Quandre Diggs bio, he had not played safety since high school when Lions coaches moved him from CB to SS and he finally unlocked his best potential.
