It's important Mike shows a ton of Faith in the guys he's got. His Guys must admit the Ravens really miss him. Add on to that if Mike MacDonald believes in you, he has damn good reasons for doing so. All that's left is to believe in yourself. We can safely bet this shows up in their performances. Plus he's damn good at matching you up with the week's opponent when he's setting his roster. HooAh. I smell an increase in butt-kickn coming. Now Koobs is getting up there with his Offense...

I like but don't love our ends and edge defenders. I see potential but most of it's not developing fast enough for me. The best case is Chenna lives up to his contract and Lawrence keeps playing like he did in Jacksonville while the rest provide solid rotating depth. I'm ready to cast Mafe off the island and Hall better improve quickly or I'm ready to move there too.

On TE's, we are blessed that in two TE packages that just scream RUN, we have (at least) TWO TE's with good hands and a smash mouth attitude about YAC. Throw in the Outz FB factor as a potential reciever and it drives Defenses bonkers!

The number of sacks are, of course, significant as each is a negative Offensive play for the opponent. I wonder if the number of QB pressures and hits are a more important stat than sacks as they result in greater numbers of DB passes defensed (zero gain) and interceptions (positive turn overs)?

Dallas Goedert is my comp for barner as a receiver...but not as a blocker. Barner said when he got to the NFL that he wanted to be the best tight end in the league and I was like whoa young man, just try to make the team and work your way into a starting role. Then I saw him play, he looked great right out of the gate. I'm impressed with him and think he's gonna be a stud for a while.

Back to the Mariners...

Mariners responded today and the Big Dumper dumped #64. Go Mariners!!! BTW, Ohtani hit three dingers in tonight's game for the Dodgers.

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but if the M's go to the WS I promise to watch every minute of every game just so I can watch Shohei Ohtani. He might be absolutely the very best player who ever played the game. Think Randy Johnson and Ichiro Suzuki combined.

If he played in the American League, he'd also be compared to Edgar Martinez. Damn, how come he's not a Marinier?

I would agree that there are very few options at edge that would be a consequential upgrade from what we already have. And how many edge players do you want to roster? I suppose if D-Hall's injury was long term, but it doesn't appear to be the case. I'm a Crosby or bust guy, I think.

If there was an off-ball LB available, that would be worth a look. Tennessee might be big sellers, since they've already ditched their 2nd year HC. Patience really isn't a thing anymore. Do the Titans even have the roster to win, independent of HC? IMO not even close. But they fire the HC. That's what bad franchises do.

I'm a big Barner fan, but I don't think he'll ever be an elite TE in the traditional get-me-lots-of-yards kind of way. But he'll be an elite blocker, and reliable receiver.

In listening to Chenna talk today, I realized how little I appreciate getting a ruined knee back into Elite shape. He was on a terror before the preseason Cheap Shot took him out 2 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0fKan5TAoc&t=3s

Yeah, I'm still salty about that cheap shot.

Thankfully it is now a rare exception. Once was it was fairly common. I meant to follow up on the guy doing it to see if he prospered or not. My bet is the Teams no longer abide it again.

I think the team stands pat at edge. If they make a trade, I could see another defensive back as a possibility.

I don't see Barner developing into an elite TE either. He reminds me a little of John Carlson and I think he will settle into that kind of production. Now, Arroyo is a TE who I could see developing into an elite player with time. We are fortunate to have both them on our team.

Regarding Barner, he’s been catching everything thrown his way. You can’t do better than that when targeted. On the other hand, we don’t know how often he’s a viable target on his routes or if he’s running his routes as schemed. It would take a Barner superfan to look at all of his routes and give a grade. (Even then, some routes are decoys and some are designed to interfere with defenders. Not all routes are designed to get open.)

Regarding our OLBs, Lawrence and Nwosu are our best run defenders. If they can pass rush too, it’s smothering. Against Jacksonville, we note the sacks and pressures from a natural four man rush. In the same breath, we should note the excellent success against the run without the need to put everyone in the box. Try to fool us with an explosive run on an obvious passing down? Good luck.

Right on. Kubiak's scheme can elevate a TE with Barner's route running and good hands to a Kittle-ish level. Imanworri (my spelling's iffy on that one) is a decent run stuffer as well.

I think Barner still has a lot of room to grow as a TE. His contested catch ability is excellent, and he also catches a very high percentage of his targets. Fant was basically nonexistent in the Red Zone for the Hawks, Barner is absolutely clutch in the Red Zone. His numbers might not blow anyone away just yet, but I see them going up as he continues to grow into the position.
