The news of the Seattle Seahawks trading Geno Smith to the Raiders and rumors of targeting Sam Darnold as his replacement were practically simultaneous reports on Friday. However, sometimes two things cannot be true at the same time:
It is true that if Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero say that something is likely, it really could be (although I won’t say “it is”)
The Seahawks could NOT have an agreement, or even a text message “Whatchu thinkin?”, with Darnold without it being tampering
So how could these NFL employees have inside information for a situation that would violate the league’s free agency rules?
The answers could be as simple as, “Ian’s only guessing” or “the Seahawks aren’t worried about a potential penalty for tampering” or something else, but only one thing is for certain:
The Seahawks can’t sign Darnold until Wednesday and they can’t have an agreement in place until Monday at 9 AM.
Until then, the only Seahawks quarterback is Sam…Howell. How likely is it that Seattle crams another Sam in our yams?
Seaside Joe has tried to keep us ahead of the curve on the QB carousel for the last few months and even expected the Seahawks to part with Geno Smith, a move that came as a “shock” at other outlets, so let’s see if we can keep that going by projecting the likelihood of Sam Darnold to Seattle:
Will the Seahawks sign Darnold?
Did they tamper and does it matter?
How good is he and what will he cost?
If not Darnold, then who?
Keep reading to find out the answers to those questions.
