In the world of Seahawks trade possibilities forthcoming, there’s a lot more news going out than in:

It only makes sense for the Seahawks to grant Geno Smith permission to seek a trade, regardless of whether they want to move him or keep him.

DK Metcalf’s value can only go down from here.

Rayshawn Jenkins is going to get released, unless there is one stupendously-desperate team in need of a safety.

But as far as trades that could go in Seattle’s direction, fans shouldn’t expect any blockbusters. Myles Garrett is an extremely talented (but overpriced when draft picks are included) pipe dream. Trey Smith would probably cost more than all the guards that John Schneider has signed…combined. Tee Higgins is short for “T.J. Houshmandzadeh”.

Instead, let’s get real.

Although John Schneider has a history of acquiring big names on the trade market, they don’t usually play around unless the player checks a few boxes:

  • Younger than the average starter on the trade block

  • Cheaper than the average starter on the trade block

  • Value is at an all-time low, but talent for a rebound is clearly there

Under those conditions, few players on the trade block fit the bill for the Seahawks, and generally not many players get traded anyway. But this guy will probably be traded and he will be a great value for the team that gets him.

Schneider shouldn’t just pick up the phone and dial, he should already have their offer ready because these opportunities don’t come around often.
